Yep, my kids use kanban.

We're beginning to get a bit more sophisticated with it these day (think Jira, Jr.), but this simple kanban method helps my little kids take on big chores without feeling overwhelmed.

THE PROBLEM

Ugh. I just can't. Problem is, they can't either. Even grownups struggle with where to start when things are a mess.

THE EXPERIMENT

We set up a basic kanban board, and keep the rules super simple.

The backlog containa all the little chunks (stories) of the bigger task at hand (epic), and each kid's work-in-progress limit is one story.

They perform a QA review on each other's stories, and have the authority to either push a story back into "In Progress", or advance it forward to "Ready for Acceptance".

Mom or Dad do the final user acceptance testing, and move stories to "Accepted".

THE RESULTS

The photos speak for themselves. I was also particularly proud that my daughter was able to surface a blocker, and created her own custom swim lane for it.
