The journey from there to here.

I'm a career problem solver, supporting cross-functional digital product teams as a UX design manager and mentor. I started my career path in print design, but quickly converted to the web after discovering a love for the flexibility of the digital design canvas. More than 20 years after making the switch, I'm still smitten with syntax + taken with tags. But along the way, I started to evolve.

The focus of my work changed from making magazine-glamorous websites, to digging into the behavioral nuances + gestures of users. Efficiencies, frustrations, ease-of-use, complete failures -- I developed intense empathy for + loyalty to my end users, compelled to show up for the ones using the technology I helped build. Maybe that's just a sign of maturing in this line of work, but I think that's when I moved away from graphic design, + found myself in love with user-centered design. I work in technology, but I have equal passion for the usability of chairs, highway systems, + carry-out boxes.

Today I help scope, plan, research, design, + develop web applications + interact symbiotically with product managers, analysts, software engineers, + business partners. My experience over the years has helped me develop a skill set that enables me to contribute measurably to a diverse team, a gift + responsibility I feel truly humbled + privileged to have.

My name is Jen, + it's a pleasure to meet you!

WYSIWYG

I have energy for a lot of things, but pretending to be someone or something I'm not is not one of those things.

I live the same way I workβ€”with humor, commitment, humility, and intention. There's no "work Jen" and "home Jen". There's just me, and I'm super comfortable with the messiness of the in between. Ask my kids, who do their chores with a kanban board. Or my coworkers, who are subject to the terrible mom analogies I use to explain work situations.

When I'm interviewing someone for a role on a team, one of the biggest questions I ask is, "If everything blew up, and I had to work all weekend, would I want to work that weekend with this person."

My Instagram is public and updated almost daily. Feel free to lurk a little and see how you'd answer that question about me.
